Auto Insurance Tips For Labor Day Weekend
First of all be aware that law enforcement agencies usually step up their efforts during holiday weekends, which means they will be on the look out for potentially dangerous drivers who may be intoxicated behind the wheel. So if you plan to drink and need to go somewhere, have a designated driver take you where you need to go. If you are caught under the influence of drugs or alcohol you will more than likely go to jail, have your car impounded, be charged with hefty fines, lose your privilege to drive and be required to attain an SR22 insurance policy to get your license back.
Since there will be more police officers out on the streets this weekend that means you have a higher chance of being pulled over. Be sure to have all of your required documentation such as proof of auto insurance coverage, valid registration and your drivers license in your vehicle before you start your weekend getaway. Getting caught without the proper documents can result in a ticket which would put a damper on any holiday plans as well as cost you more money in the long run due to the associated fines that come along with a citation.
Before you leave for a weekend vacation make sure that your vehicle is in good drivable shape. Check your tires to make sure they are properly inflated and have a good amount of tread left on them. Many accidents are caused by tire blowouts and can result in having to file a claim with your insurance company. Checking all of your cars fluids such as engine and transmission oil can help you avoid costly vehicle breakdowns. Also if you are a member of an auto club be sure to check that your annual premiums are paid just in case you do need to call for road side assistance.
If you don’t have an active policy be sure to purchase auto insurance with at least the minimum required coverage in your state. There will be many more vehicles on the road this holiday weekend and you never know what could happen. Not to sound cliche but it is better to be safe than sorry as the old saying goes!
