MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) and the state Office of Traffic Safety will be passing out safe driving literature to motorists who pass through the checkpoint. People who are found to operating vehicles under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be arrested according the the Police Departments press release.
According to Sgt. Tak Kim who is the coordinator of the checkpoint, it is the Fullerton Police Departments goal to raise awareness of the danger of drunk driving as well as the importance of designating a sober driver. The department also encourages motorists to help out by dialing 9-1-1 to report vehicles who appear to be driven by an intoxicated motorist.
The DUI checkpoint is one of many others that will take place in Orange County, CA this weekend and throughout the Labor Day holiday. They are all a part of the Avoid the 38 Program that consists of various law enforcement agencies that are committed to taking dangerous drivers off the streets.
Being caught for driving under the influence can be a big problem. It costs a lot of money in fines, classes, and it makes it harder for you to find low cost auto insurance. In addition to the fees, in most cases your license will be suspended. You may be ordered to obtain an sr22 insurance policy to get it back. So do the right thing and have someone who has not been drinking drive you home or wherever you need to go. If this is not possible, it is best to call a cab to come pick you up.
